SPELLING BEE

Guidelines

  1. No congregation may have more than four (4) participants to enter each grade category. The two grade categories are: a. Promoted to Grade 1 – 3 b. Promoted to Grade 4 – 6 c. Promoted to Grade 7 – 9
  2. The announcer will pronounce the word and use it in a sentence.
  3. Prior to spelling a word, if you do not understand the word, you must ask the announcer to say the word again.
  4. The announcer will not repeat a word more than twice.
  5. You will be allowed 10 seconds to spell the word.
  6. Once you start to spell a word you cannot ask for the word to be repeated, ask for a meaning of the word or ask for the word to be used in a sentence.
  7. If you start spelling a word and start over again you must say the same letters. You cannot change any letters once you start spelling a word.

BIBLE BOWL

Guidelines

Teams – In 2018 each congregation is permitted to field two teams. Each team must consist of four participants. In addition, each team is allowed two alternates. Teams cannot interchange alternates.
Age – Age groups will remain the same: Ages 6-9; Ages 10-12; ages 13-16; Ages 17-21; and Ages 22 and Above.
After a specified number of questions, to be determined at the Bible Bowl, alternates can be substituted.
Questions – All scriptures will come from the King James version of the Bible.
Age group studies are as follows: Ages 9-9 (Genesis 6-9) Ages 10 to 12 (Ruth) Ages 13 to 16 (Numbers 10-16) Ages 17 to 21 (Numbers 17-23) Ages 22 and Above (Numbers 24-30)
The questions will not be given to the congregations.

ATHLETICS

Guidelines

  1. All congregations must register for athletic activities during conference registration on Monday, July 18th.
  2. All athletic participants: 1) Must be registered with the Southeastern Youth Conference, 2) must be faithful Christian, 3) and must be subject to their chaperones.
  3. Basketball and volleyball teams must wear the same uniforms. They can be t-shirts or jerseys but must be the same color.
  4. If your team brings practice balls, please be sure they are appropriately marked and kept by a member of your congregation. The conference will not be responsible for lost or stolen athletic items.
  5. Only spike track shoes and tennis shoes will be allowed on the track. All basketball and volleyball participants must wear tennis shoes.

SPEECH COMPETITION

Guidelines

This speech competition is designed to provide a vehicle for young people to learn and master the art of public speaking. The competition is open to all registered participants between the ages of 6 through 18 and is divided into four age groups.

General Instructions:

  1. Each congregation may only enter three speakers per age group.
  2. Contestants may use a full manuscript, notes or index cards. They do not have to memorize their speech.
  3. It is the responsibility of each congregational leader to have reviewed the speeches presented by their youth.
  4. The order of the speakers will be determined by drawing numbers.

DRAMA COMPETITION

Guidelines

  1. The skit must revolve around the theme.
  2. The skit must have a title.
  3. The competition director will announce each congregation and the title of their skit. The skit must be no more than six minutes starting with the first action or words of the actor(s).
  4. A reasonable use of props is welcome to enhance the performance. The only props provided by the conference will be tables and chairs.
  5. Costumes are encouraged to promote creativity.
  6. All ages are encouraged to participate.
  7. Because voice projection is part of the scoring rubric, the use of microphones will be prohibited (even for projecting music or sounds), as well as any other technical stage devices (curtain, lights, …)

ART COMPETITION

Guidelines

  1. All entries must be seen and approved by the artist’s local congregational coordinator.
  2. One entry per person.
  3. All entries must have the following labeled on the back: full name of artist, age, congregation’s name, name and cell phone number of adult chaperone attending the youth conference, a scripture that inspired the art piece, and a brief description of the art piece.
  4. All entries will be collected and displayed at an announced location on Tuesday.
  5. Art pieces can be created using your choice of media/materials: painting, drawing, cartooning, collages, 3D art, clay, … etc.
